Everyone Loves Stock?

Another Thursday night with good attendance

Thursday Feb.10 and its about 8:30 P.M. The third running of the official Hi-Torque Stock touring race is about to begin and thirteen guys showed up for the midweek race. The Stock group took some time and effort to complete but today it seems more people show up for stock than modified. Its hard to say why this phenomenon has occurred, but it looks like Stock Touring is here to stay. Many of the regulars were not even in attendance yet there were a fair number of racers raring to go.

There must be some mystical appeal when an R/C racer hears the words, "27 single bushing motor", but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Usually the phrase, "9 turn triple Chrome Modified" , is what really gets the adrenaline flowing but he emergence of the new Re-buildable "Super" stock motor has injected new life into stock racing class. Being able to cut the com of a stock motor has extended the life of stock motors and made them much more efficient. Lets hope the Stock fever lasts and this "fun" class continues. .?

Can 21 be Done?
Ted Camacho Goes faster than ever before

The Finals were even faster than the qualifying. Its either everyone was saving their fast set up for the final or everyone just drove faster. In the Amain final it was a tight battle between Ted, Jun, and Aba. Going into the last run either of these racers could have taken the win and it was a matter of who would rise to the occasion and out drive the other. First round was won by Ted just one second from doing a 21 lap run. The second run was taken by Aba who has found a winning set up for his MR4 and hot on both of their heels was Jun really getting the feel of his TC3.
The third round was to be the deciding run and Ted took it with a blistering 21 lap 5:12.780. Not bad for a guy who couldn't finish a stock race just a few weeks before. Aba was just edged out by Jun who did 20 laps and had one of his best stock race performances.
The B main however was a very different story from that of the Amain. The B main was dominated by one of the few Street Weapon Drivers of Hi-torque. Jeff Lagman swept the triple main with three 19 lap performances. His times would have been fast enough to put Jeff third in the A main during qualifying and to say that he was consistent would be an understatement. Once again the intense driving style of Jeff has given him the victory in the B final.
The fight for second and third was a much closer race as JR stayed in front of Newton by only one finishing position. These guys have shown just how close stock racing can really get.. Sofar so good and next week the Stock race Rolls on.

Faster and Faster

The Qualifying session

During Qualifying lap times were fast and furious with many drivers easily doing 19 lap runs. However, with the drop one count two qualifying system, going fast was only one necessary requirement to get into elusive group of eight. Not only do you need to post fast qualifying times, you now need to do it at least two out of the three qualifying rounds. This format places more emphasis on consistent driving rather than one fast run.

On the top of the hill after the dust had settled stood Joel Lagman with his Yokomo MR4. Joel had a perfect qualifying score of two showing his ability to put in the fast lap times. In second came last weeks second placer Ted Camacho who qualified with three points. Ted has shown consistent improvement over the last three races and has put in the practice time to sharpen his driving. In third came Jun Dimaano who piloted his TC3 with consistent 19 lap runs. Jun proved that consistency is important with this qualifying format by running 19 laps in every round of qualifying. This action sets the stage for an exciting final.
